121th Boston Marathon

Boston Marathon, is organized by Boston Athletic Association—www.baa.org, and primarily sponsored by John Hancock Financial Services since 1897. Boston Marathon is a worldwide oldest road major racing.

26.2 miles course starts Hopkinton, via Ashland, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley (way of 1/2), then, Newton (Heartbreak), Brookline to Boylston St Copley Sq Finish Line.

This year, 30,153 entrants are from over 99 countries, 23,919 from United State, 5120 from Massachusetts, age ranges from 18-84.

Race start: 8:50am Mobility impaired at Hopkinton Start Line, 9:17am Push-rim wheelchair, 9:19am prw women, 9:22: handcycle; 9:32am Elite Women’s, 10am Elite Men’s and wave 1, 10:25am Wave 2, 10:50am Wave 3, 11:15am Wave 4, 11:56am Women’s Open Division expected finish time, 12:08pm Men’s Open Division expected finish time.

Total award prize of $830,500 towards to top 15 women and men open finishers, with 1st place $150,000, secon $75,000, third 40,000, fourth 25,000, and fifth 15,000, Top 5 masters 1st $10,000 and top 10 wheelchair 1st $20,000. Winners awarded additionally $220,000 towards open record broken, olive wreath, medal and champions trophies. The race also impacts 192.2 million local economy.

In the early morning, thousands of visitors already touched down the side of finish line, associated with forth annual memorial for Marathon bombing survivors, and victims of Martin W. Richard, Krystle M. Campbell, Lingzi Lu and MIT police officer Sean A. Collier.

10:35am:, Men’s push rim wheelchair, Marcel Hug 31 yrs Switzerland 1:18:03 first ran over the finish line; Ernst Van Dyk, 44 years of RSASouth Africa came second of 1:18:04; They endup race very closely.
Hiroyuki Yamamoto JPN finishes third ends 1:19:32.

Manuela Schar age 32 from SUI finishes 1:28:17

Around 11:50am, Women’s first flush finish line is Edna Kiplagat KEN 38 mom of two young with 2;21:52; Rose Chelmo 27 ERN 2:22:51 came second; USA Jordan Hassay 25 came 3rd at 2:23:00.

Just over 12noon: Men’s Geoffrey Kirui 24 yrs KEN first ran over finish line with 2:09:37, USA Gallen Rupp 30 yrs came second 2:09:58,. and Japan Suguru Osako 25 yrs finishes third on 2:10:28.

Crowd waves came Boylston Street after 1pm through 5pm with endless, They were surrounded by families, coaches, supporters, some athletes were assisted by court staff, friends, relatives, media, police officers, medicalEMS, etc, also congratulated by Boston Mayors and BAAofficers.

There are many local Chinese athletes have been running Boston Marathon in recent years, since our CNASA reported this big Boston sport event over last decade.
Jian Wang, one of our CNASA (BeiMeiTiXie) chief organizers, who has been serving Boston Marathon for China team and local team since 2003, officially ran in this year 121st Marathon. We encourage more and more people come up and enjoy the run.

Next year 122nd Boston Marathon will be on April 16 , 2018 Monday
